Ever listen to Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band? I saw them in concert (having only heard "First Day of my Life" before) and it was awesome. I still visit their first album regularily. I haven't really listened to Bright Eyes but from what I understand/what I've heard, his stuff with MVB is less whiny, more rock, and more country.
One of my fav's is "NYC, Gone Gone" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xe82Mkl51I ), though its not really typical of the album. "Sausalito" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ndeTIkOi9Y) is good too and more consistent with the album sound.
Oh, and though it may be "typical" (as per your fb post) it is spot on rainy day music. You have a lot of rainy day posts - is Van really as rainy as they say?
Both tracks are sweet. I especially like how short "NYC" is 'cause I can listen to it over and over again. I might have to check out the MVB's entire album now.
Personally, I don't find Van particularly rainy. Yeah, it rains for a while sometimes, but even NS has its wet-spells.
