B-Lines - "In the Red"

I still get this one stuck in my head:

B-Lines - "Social Retard"

Don't be offended if I don't say hi:

Ever Get Depressed After Seeing a Band?

Because you know there will be no higher for a long time to come? This is a cheerier spin on my previous thought about B-Lines. This video doesn't convey a tenth of it. But you get an idea:

Bob Logg III Live at the Biltmore Cabaret, July 9

Did you know Daft Punk have a long-lost brother? His name is Bob Log III. He's a jet-age rhinestone cowboy, and he plays the blues. And he's coming to the Biltmore on July 9 for twelve measly bux:

New Tracks: Weed - "Set Me Back"/"Silent Partner" (Couple Skate, 2013)

Debut LP on the way? I hope so, 'cause it's long overdue (edit: Weed play their Deserve LP release show on Sept. 13 at They Live Video):

This Is Really Happening

Get your ticket now, because they're flyin' out of Red Cat and Zulu Records. Really surprised Gary Numan is playing Fortune Sound Club when he could easily fill a larger, more notable venue. Oh, well. Accessible intimacy.

Johnny de Courcy - "Cherry Lane"

"THEY TOOK MY - FUCKING DRUGS, GIVE ME MY - FUCKING DRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGS!

Johnny de Courcy may be a better show than I expect. I'll find out Friday when he plays the Courtneys' tour kick-off show along with my other local favs Juvenile Hall and Student Teacher at the Railway Club.

NEW: No Age - "C'Mon Stimmung"

Yeah, baby. First song unveiled from No Age's upcoming new album An Object, due August 20 on Sub Pop:

Sam Roberts Comes To the PNE For (Almost) Free

Sam Roberts comes to the PNE on August 24. I can't believe how many times I've missed this bucket list show. But not this time! REO Speedwagon and Loverboy play the PNE that week too. Woo-woo!

What do I mean by "almost free"? Read the show details here.

My Album of the Year?

I'll let you know in December. My album of the half-year? I'll let you know right now. Watch the video for the Courtneys' "Nu Sundae", from their just-released debut LP The Courtneys, below, and read their interview with Rookie Mag here

Definitely Not Getting Any Free Passes To Live Nation Shows Now

Pitchfork article on the current status of the suit against concert promoter Live Nation regarding the stage collapse that killed a crew member at a Radiohead show in Ottawa. Read it here.

Almost the Epitome of a Poorly Written Review

UK publication (blog?) Female First has posted one of the most poorly written album reviews I've ever read. Almost the epitome of a poorly written review. In a nutshell: "Everything happy all the time always must be!" Read it for yourself here.

Does Anyone Else Not Like Savages?

Jehnny Beth, stop air-drumming. Stop moving your arms period. And "[anything]-revival" is a stupid tag:

Could This Be the First Show I Object To on "Political" Grounds?

"Political" being a general term for beliefs here, not strictly speaking in party terms.

Would you see Peter Hook and his new band the Light play Movement and Power, Corruption & Lies in their entireties even if none of the other original members of New Order were involved or even approved? The former Joy Division and New Order multi-instrumentalist is bringing such a show to the Venue on September 23.

On one hand, I love those albums, and at least it's one original member of Joy Division and New Order; also, I could just think of the Light as a REALLY good cover band. On the other, it's only one original member, and I don't quite support the idea of shoving money into Peter Hook milking JD's and NO's legacies without the other members' consent. Also, I hate cover bands.

I should ignore the band-turmoil, as it is not my business, and just enjoy the music - strip everything away, from album art to the personas and characters and cultures/mythologies surrounding musical figures, albums, songs, etc. - that old cliche. But you're also the things you consume: the food you eat, the hobbies in which you partake, the television shows/movies/books/music you choose for entertainment. Both views are valid, but I guess I have until September 23 to decide which I'm more aligned with.
